Green Planet Initiative 2050 is pleased to have been endorsed by the UN Decade of Ecosytem Restoration as a partner (Restoration Implementer). An increasing number of global, complex, and interacting environmental and socio-economical drivers of change affect forests and the society as a whole. GPI2050 aims at presenting and discussing the challenges and opportunities related to the global drivers of change and the pathways to reduce their adverse effects as well as to take advantage of the benefits and opportunities they might bring. GPI2050 is a platform for programs, projects, processes and products to accelerate ecosystem restoration in Africa
My passion about sustainability in forestry and climate change.
I am passionate about sustainability and resilience in forestry and climate change because forests are a stabilizing force, the fastest, cheapest and most immediate climate solution. Forests regulate ecosystems, protect biodiversity, play an integral part in the carbon cycle, support livelihood and supply goods and services that can drive sustainable growth. By addressing climate change, we can build a sustainable world for all. I believe collective individual actions against climate change at a global scale will win, action cannot wait any longer.
I am an ACTIONIST and not an ACTIVIST
What next the Festus??!
Green Planet Initiative 2050 will continue to accelerate practical ecosystem restoration by aggregating communities “building the green foot soldiers” to reverse landscape degradation, end deforestation and expand on the land area covered by forests across nations. Create resilient landscapes and market systems, empower women, support youth and children. We are looking up to substituting fossil fuels with biofuels and adopting renewable energy solutions in order to reduce carbon emissions. Global carbon retention resulting from reduced deforestation, increased forest regrowth and more agroforestry and plantations could make up for about 15 percent of carbon emissions from fossil fuels by 2050
Green Planet Initiative 2050 will play a big role in the efforts to achieving a net zero carbon environment through research invention and technological innovation.
What advice would you give for a more sustainable future.
What the world needs today for the success of any given movement or initiative on providing more resilient solutions are only three main things;
- The people
Without the people, we miss out on the strategy and without the strategy, we miss out on the execution.
What’s next for you?
Co-creating eco-regions in East Africa and along the Nile River Basin countries for strategic ecosystem restoration.
What would you like to see more of from people and organisations to create change?
Work with indigenous people, replicate local solutions, wealth creation. Involve the people, empower women and the vulnerable, work with governments and support grassroots movements especially those led by experts.
What would you recommend from RYVIAS for our audience?
Take part and start projects that are creating impacts at grassroots level where the action is.
Support resource acquisition and mobilization in any way you can.
