The Innovation station

Sitting in the hills of Lima, the Innovation station, headed by Davide Martinez, look to improve the lives of locals by giving them resources to use simple technology to generate energy that helps provides not only income but also food for themselves. By providing simple skills in being able to use solar technology and wind technology, they can help the most disadvantaged take advantage of their surroundings.

Hi! Tell us a bit about your backstory

Hola Ben! As a passion project, I spent a large part of my life in quite a privileged position. In South America, you either have enough to live a good life or you have to struggle. I started the Innovation station when I saw my children playing around with some of the turbine motors I had in my old career, improving the performance of athletes. It was a world away but I wanted to see my environment look and feel like a place I would want all children to grow up in.

So why are you passionate about this aspect of sustainability?

I like renewable energy sources being used for sustainability because I believe if it’s made accessible for everyone then you can create a better life and cleaner streets. There are parts of my city that are beautiful and filled with trees. We are by one of the largest forests in the world yet if I can get everyone using the technology, it benefits both the rich and the poor.

What’s next for you?

I would like to develop accessible portable solar panels and turbines for everyone, so they can be found in streets and people can use them to gain energy for free without cost. I am working hard with the city to make this a hope for the future.

One piece of advice for a sustainable future

We are all in this together. We need to work together and we need to treat the world as a precious area that we are lucky to be a part of. People see what they want to see but if you all work together then anything is possible and we all win.

What would you recommend from RYVIAS for our audience?

There is so much but I do love stories from your storybook and the sense of community. It is amazing to know that we have a close family that all care from all over the world. I would also say to learn about renewal solar energy and using wind energy. It shows just how easy it can be for everyone to make the world better!
