Rochyne Thomas is an inspiring conservationist who believes that we can revive our planet through climate-responsive performative urbanism, one street at a time. Understanding that change is possible on an individual level and it comes from so many sources and so many resources we already have is the reason why Rochyne is absolutely a voice that is worth listening to.
Hi! Tell us a bit about your backstory
I had started my career in academia – delivering courses in biology and environmental science at undergraduate and high school levels, before broadening my profile to climate finance and adaptation planning.
So why are you passionate about this aspect of sustainability?
If the public were to develop a sense of stewardship of natural capital, the ‘tragedy of the commons’ would cease to exist. And it is exactly this sentiment that I strive to arouse in people.
WOW that’s amazing Rochyne! So what’s next for you?
I am currently working on a book on bringing sustainability into daily living.
We’ll absolutely be encouraging people to get reading the moment it is available. So what’s your one piece of advice for a sustainable future?
Collective behavioural change is the key to a sustainable future. I know it takes time but if there was the understanding that a slight shift in behaviour can make a drastic change, the world would look a different place.
What would you recommend from RYVIAS for our audience?
I believe RYVIAS will be able to provide a diverse platform of individuals to come together to develop and implement projects for the greater good. Get Involved because it’s something we can all be a part of.
